Former Group Scout Leader M E Weragoda’s Funeral

Former Group Scout Leader M E Weragoda passed away on 29th August 2024 and the 39th Colombo Scout Group paid tribute to Mr. Weragoda’s mortal remains when the remains was brought to school premises.

The hearse was accorded a guard of honor by the present Scouts and Prefects and his coffin was carried into The Fortrose (passing the former location of the old ‘Scout Den’) by alumni representing the Old Boys’ Union, the 39th Colombo Scout Group, Ruggerites and Prefects.

Rev. Nihal Fernando celebrated a simple service giving thanks to the life and service of Mr. Weragoda.

Eulogies were delivered by Rev. Lakshman Daniel (alumni); Mr. N. Y. Casie Chetty (former Headmaster); Mr. Rajindh Perera (Old Boys’ Union); Mr. Cheran Rajaratnam (39th Colombo Scout Group); Rev. Roshan Mendis (alumni); and Santhula Keerthisinghe (students and 39th Colombo Scout troop).

A photo montage compiled by the Scouts from an archive maintained by alumni and scout, Mr. Sujiv Fonseka, played in the background to the singing of hymns by the Choir as colleagues and students filed past the mortal remains of Mr. Weragoda paying their last respects.

At 4PM the Perfects and Scouts accompanied his coffin to the hearse and Mr. Weragoda left the gates of Prep School, the School he loved and where he was loved, for the last time.
