Hence we got the Radio License, why not a logo ?

This logo represents our amateur radio (ham radio) station.

1. The Call Sign: 4S6STP

The large red text in the center is the “call sign.” In the world of amateur radio, every station has a unique identifier.

  • 4S: This is the international prefix for Sri Lanka.
  • 6: This digit usually identifies the specific region or license class within the country.
  • STP: This likely stands for S. Thomas’ Prep, linking the station directly to the school.

2. The Institution: S. Thomas’ Preparatory School

The bottom of the logo clearly identifies the owner: S. Thomas’ Preparatory School, Colombo 3. This is a prestigious private Anglican school in Sri Lanka. It is the school’s official crest.

3. The Scouting Connection

There are two distinct scouting symbols here:

  • The Fleur-de-lis (Top): The white symbol at the very top is the universal symbol of Scouting.
  • The Scout Icon (Bottom Left): The blue silhouette of a scout in a beret and neckerchief further emphasizes that this radio station is part of the school’s Scout Group, 39th Colombo Scout Group

4. Technical Radio Imagery

The white graphic in the center depicts a telegraph key (used for sending Morse code) emitting radio waves. This is a classic symbol for amateur radio enthusiasts, signaling a focus on communication technology and heritage skills like CW (Continuous Wave/Morse code).

5. Color Palette

The logo uses a “Prep Blue” and “Navy” theme, which are the traditional colors of the school. The use of red for the call sign makes it the most prominent feature, ensuring it is easily readable during radio competitions or on “QSL cards” (postcards used to confirm radio contacts).
